England secured a comfortable six-wicket victory over Pakistan in their ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup match on Monday at the Johor Cricket Academy Oval in Johor, Malaysia, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed.
Chasing a modest 67-run target, England reached their goal in 9.2 overs to record their first win of the tournament. Pakistan, awarded one point after their opening game against the US was washed out, are now third in Group B, with Ireland placed fourth.
After being sent to bat, Pakistan’s innings struggled as they lost wickets consistently, collapsing to 66 all out in 18.5 overs. Zoofishan Ayyaz top-scored with 15 runs off 13 balls, while captain Komal Khan contributed 12 off 25.
England’s Amuruthaa Surenkumar led the bowling attack with figures of 3-17, supported by Tilly Corteen-Coleman and Olivia Brinsden, who took two wickets each.
In response, England were at 33-4 before Katie Jones (20 not out) and skipper Abigale Norgrove (14 not out) stabilised the innings with an unbeaten 34-run partnership to guide their team to victory. Mahnoor Zeb claimed two wickets for Pakistan, with Fatima Khan and Quratulain chipping in with one wicket each.
