LAHORE:
The Punjab government has allocated Rs350 million for the restoration and preservation of the historic Badshahi Mosque and its sacred relics.
Additionally, a dedicated security management unit is being established to ensure the protection and upkeep of these invaluable treasures.
The construction of a new, state-of-the-art relics gallery is underway at the mosque.
The gallery, located on the upper floor of the mosque’s main gate, houses 26 sacred relics with significant historical and spiritual associations, including items linked to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the Ahlul Bayt, and other prominent Islamic figures. Sources reveal that the project, titled “Security, Preservation, and Upkeep of Holy Relics at Badshahi Mosque,” is valued at Rs68.60 million.
The scope of work includes advanced conservation efforts, electrical work, a modern fire alarm system, tripod turnstiles, burglar alarm systems, air conditioning, and other internationally compliant systems. The relics gallery has been constructed in the southern colonnade of the mosque, with the Punjab Department of Auqaf serving as the sponsoring agency and the Walled City of Lahore Authority as the executing body.
